Sunrise Park Resort

If you’re coming up to ski at Sunrise Park Resort this weekend then you should be reading this blog for an update on weather, conditions, events, and specials!

Weather and conditions

It has been snowing on and off throughout the day up at Sunrise and they have received three new inches of snow as of Friday, bringing their base to 36 inches. They’ve received 6 inches total in the last week. The snow is a little hard in the morning since the temps have been in the high teens and low twenties, but starts to soften around 10:30-11:00. They have been keeping the runs groomed and have been making snow every night.

imagesThis year Sunrise is going to hold their 1st annual Pond Skimming Weekend on Saturday, March 22nd and Sunday, March 23rd. Bring your skis or board and see if you have what it takes to skim across the pond without getting too wet! Feel free to wear any costume you like! Register with the Guest Services Office the day of the event to participate in the fun. Don’t forget your towel!

If you have a season pass to any ski resort in the U.S. then you’re in luck! Bring your pass up to Sunrise and receive 1/2 off your lift ticket! You must present proof of your pass. Be aware that this only applies to Adult and Youth passes. Junior and college passes are not part of the discount deal.imgres

There’s another deal going on that applies to pass holders as well. This time you have to be a Sunrise pass holder. The deal is that you bring a friend to the mountain with you, present your pass at the ticket window, and your FRIEND receives 1/2 off their lift pass! What a great way to get a free lunch out of your friend! Just kidding.

Happy skiing everyone!

Spring Skiing

It’s about time to get those last few ski trips in as the winter winds down! Whether you’re coming to the mountain for Spring Break or just to enjoy skiing in the warm weather, there are a couple of things you should bring with you and a few tuning tips you should keep in mind before you hit the snow.

When packing for spring skiing, make sure you add a shell instead of a heavy coat, lighter gloves, dark goggles, and sunscreen to your list of items to put in your suitcase. The shell and light gloves¬†will make your skiing/boarding experience much more comfortable and will keep you from overheating during the day. chromeThe dark goggles will protect you from the glare off the snow. Grab a pair of black/grey tinted goggles with a chrome mirrored lens for best results. As for the sunscreen, well, you probably shouldn’t walk into the office with an outrageous goggle tan around your eyes. Take some with you on the mountain and apply generously.goggle tan

It’s important to keep p maintenance on your skis, even for spring skiing. If you haven’t had your skis waxed in a while, make sure you stop into a ski shop (like The Skier’s Edge) and do so! Ski shops will have wax ready for the warmer temperatures and the ski technicians will have a better idea of what the snow is like up at the mountain-slushy, packed, icy…etc. Also be sure to take your skis in and have them waxed if your hanging them up for the year. This way they won’t dry out over the summer.
